Andy Hickman, the guy behind “Reefer Madness” threatens a Cher: The Musical for Broadway said to Popeater after Cher’s VMA appearance: ” We’ll be making announcements about that project coming together shortly. She’s a fairly phenomenal character, Cher, as a human being I think she’s one of the great icons of all time, a force to be reckoned with.”
So what do I think? I’ve seen her once at MSG for one of her many farewell appearances and I thought she was OK, nothing special. The stage was pretty cool but not more or less than what you’d get at Vegas and while she does have a back catalogue is there more than 5 songs? 10?
As stars go Cher is a sorta plasticine uber woman who went from 60s earth child to TV star to gay icon: a sorta Judy Garland story without the voice, the talent or the pathos.Gay men like her I would guess, because she is so extreme she is easy to emulate. She looks unlike so it is easy for transvestites to look unlike like her.
Will this translate to Broadway?
Oh yeah, absolutely it will.
