I know very little about Catwalk, one of the first acts I saw at the Silver Lake Jubilee, but the quartet consisting of a classic guitars-bass-drums played some damn catchy bright-guitar-power-pop-choruses. All their songs transpired youth (they all seem super young) brightness, sunlight, a certain nostalgia for the golden age of the 60s-70s, but especially all of them were extremely well-crafted tunes.
The band was impressive despite the young age of its members, it was good vibes all over the place, with a light touch of surf guitar on certain songs, a constant dynamism over their light upbeat pop, and sometimes a little more darkness hardly perceptible behind all this poppiness.
Frontman Nick Hessler, the sun right in his face, was singing with a quiet voice his garage pop and even announced a few new songs, as the band has only released two seven inches on Captured tracks, and is currently working on a full-length album.
What can I say, it was bubbly, carefree, head-in-the-cloud music, although their song ‘Disappear’ (I think) brought a little more nostalgia with its long instrumental jam at the end, a sort of perfect soundtrack for a long road trip.
