Can Stereogum’s Opinion be Trusted?

Of 1000 odd sets played over the CMJ Fest, I read Stereogum’s pix with the usual mix of bafflement and indicision.
Of the bands they mentioned as playing real good sets, I’d heard of maybe half and seen live two.
Cloud Nothings and Wild Nothing.
These are both real young bands and I have no doubt that Cloud Nothings were excellent. They were excellent when I saw them in March, why wouldn’t they be. But Wild Nothing? I saw them at Webster Hall during CMJ and while they seemed like pleasant  enough chaps, but not the most scintillating show I’ve ever seen.
And that was one of the best???
Plus: this brave new world where the people who write about the bands book the bands is a little yucky. Sure, I let Woody Fuller get away with it but the heart of the matter, Helen and I, have no vested interest in anybodies success and i don’t understand how you can write about people you are making money off.
Having said that the stereogum post was excellent. check it out…
