The legendary Velvet Underground and Nico is 45 years old? How could it be? But for the occasion, some of the best indie musicians are putting out a vinyl-only tribute to the iconic band, which will be released on November 6 via Castle Face, Thee Oh Sees’ John Dwyer’s own label and Universal.
Ty Segall will cover ‘Femme Fatale’, and it may go a little less quiet than the original, whereas Thee Oh Sees have picked the perfect one for their psychedelic out-of-control garage rock, the long and noisy ‘European Son’.
Among the other bands I have seen, The Fresh & Onlys and White Fence, whose frontman Tim Presley’s style has been compared to Syd Barett’s. Basically, all of them seem to have this psychedelic thing going on, so it should be fun. Oh but wait,… vinyl only? I don't do vinyl! But there's nothing to worry about, the tracks will also be released digitally on various websites between October 15-29.
