If all the great producer Martin Rushent, who died last week at the age of 63, had been at the helm of the Buzzcocks triumphant triumverate, Another Music In A Different Kitchen, Love Bites, and A Different Kind Of Tension, as well as the compiliation Singles Going Steady, his ticket to rock and roll heaven would be punched and in order.
But it isn't.
Martin did early production work for Joy Division, he produced the Human League's Dare, he had a hand in the New Romantic movement, for the nascent (well, a bit after nascent) punk scene he worked with Generation X, the Stranglers, and others.
In other words he was a compleat rock producer who moved to dance with ease.
Oh, one more thing he produced? His son is James Rushent, guitarist of rock nyc faves Does It Offend You, Yeah?.
RIP, to a rock and roll great.
