Miss May I released a new song called "My Hardship". I knew that MMI were really hardcore, basically just all screaming, but I decided to give it a listen.
The screaming got a little bit annoying, but once I got used to it, I realized that the musicianship was insane. And when the screaming finally turns to singing, it's perfect. The band is so tight and connected, that it feels like they were all meant to play together.
The breakdowns aren't cliche, the screaming in all actuality isn't unbearable, and all together the song is really good. They remind me a little bit of Asking Alexandria, but a little softer.
The drummer totally makes the band. His ability to keep everything together perfectly, and then still have room to do his thing on top of it is mind blowing. I've realized that drummers definitely make or break a band/song. Fortunately for Miss May I, they've got a fantastic one. On top of that, the guitars and bass are so perfectly intertwined that there's not a single flaw.
"My Hardship" is refreshing and has made me realize that maybe I'm not completely turned off from the hardcore genre for good. They've definitely got their niche…
