The first single of Sleigh Bells’ upcoming record ‘Reign of Terror’ has surfaced and it is called ‘Born to Lose’. But isn’t there a million songs already entitled that way? Wikipedia counts nine of them by Ray Charles, Dee Dee Ramones, Shirley Bassey, social Distortion, Ted Daffan, Bouncing Souls, The Devil Wears Prada, Motörhead and Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers!
Anyway, their abrasive and aggressive electronic sound feels nevertheless a little bit poppier than ever with the reverb in Alexis Krauss’ sweet voice doubled with some cheer-leading backup vocals. The track thumps slowly after an explosive machine-gun opening, and it does not want to die for the longest time with a surprising guitar effect. It’s undoubtedly made to be heard loud as usual with Sleigh Bells, but what exactly is the deal with the Purple Heart on the cover?
