It is reported that Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown is dating her mother’s adoptive son, so in fact her adoptive brother, Nick Gordon. The two kids grew up together, after Whitney adopted the boy about ten years ago.
TMZ posted a video showing them together kissing in the streets of Atlanta, demonstrating it was not just a rumor, and Cissy Houston declared, horrified, that what they were doing was incestuous.
TMZ is also reporting that Bobbi doesn’t care a bit about her grandmother’s feeling and is ‘going to please herself by doing what she wants to do for once’. There are even rumors about a marriage proposal….
All these people screaming it is incestuous,….. but is it really incest? The two are not even blood-related! It is true that we consider incest also applies to kids who have been raised together, but is it justified?
People think incest avoidance is one of the basis of human morality but in fact it is not, it is hardly unique in nature, many primates and other species do not practice incest! As many other moral sentiments, avoiding incest is rooted in biology, it is a natural human disposition (contrarily to what Freud thought!) triggered by the possible biological problems related to it. In short, avoidance of incest is a biological thing, a result of our evolutionary history, as it is not good for the survival of the species when offspring interbreed.
And our knowledge of the genetics of inbreeding is the source of our abhorrence of incest, but this does not apply to the case of Bobbi Kristina and Nick Gordon, their offspring would be safe since they are unrelated!
There is no reason to condemn their relationship on this basis, … except that it may not be a very good idea to get engaged so young, just a few weeks after the loss of a parent.
