As everyone who is anyone knows, singer Beyonce Knowles gave birth to her and rapper Jay-Z’s daughter on Saturday, January 8th at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. Jay-Z even released a song on his website about the birth of their daughter, a song which I've heard on multiple radio stations.
What many don’t know is the extent of the personal security surrounding Beyonce and Jay-Z during the birth. Complaints were even filed about the extreme security measures taken by the celebrities. Both state health officials and the hospital investigated the complaints and, having found that no rules or regulations had been broken, the complaints were dismissed. The level of security in the hospital wing was still very odd.
One of the other new mothers in the neonatal unit, Rozz Nash-Coulon, told the Associated Press "It looked like the president was on our floor. The hospital's security cameras were taped over. Internal windows from the hallways into the ward were blacked out."
I think it really says something about the United States when a singer gets as much security at the birth of her child as the President would. Not that President Obama will be giving birth any time soon; as far as I know, that is. Even so, little Blue Ivy Carter was welcomed into this world by as many men in dark suits and security guards as she will probably see for the rest of her life. We can only hope that one day, when she gives birth, she doesn’t feel the need to be surrounded by her own personal secret service.
