Good Ol' Billy Idol. 40 years with the same hairstyle is reason alone to cheer him on but the ability to rock that look AND sound amazing for 40 years is even more impressive.
I love Billy Idol, say what you will about the "more more more" and sneer caricatures it wont matter. I find him amazingly talented from Gen X days all the way through those silly acting attempts.
billyidol.net is a new site and for the price of your contact info you can download for free the new single "Kings and Queens of the Underground" so is it worth the hassle? Well first off there is no hassle its your freakin email address.
What you get in return is a really beautiful song that's intro sounds so Jethro Tull-ish, I got nervous. Billy lost his balls, but wait as the song progresses I realized something, Billy grew up. The lyrics are biting the vocals are a story and yeah theres some corny old song references but don't give up. Keep listening through and if you in anyway had teenaged years in the 80's you're going to 'get it'.
I want to say this melancholy nod to the past was hokey but I cant. The music has a unique flair and best of all Idol is not trying to be 25. Its an ugly gritty story covered in kitsch'.
Listening to this actually made me proud to be a Queen of the Underground. It's odd, I'm not sure if its that damn musical imagery hitting me in the frontal lobe again or if its the voice that zips me back those 30 years.
I'm really guardedly excited about this. I'm excited about this storyteller Idol has unleashed. We spend so much time looking for the 'next big thing', I'm glad this crept across my desk. It felt like a postcard from an old friend. Kind of an 'I'm OK, You're OK' sort of moment. This one touched my heart.
