Ferguson On Fire but does Billy brag?
According to Gigwise who got it from NME, Billy Bragg played Ferguson, MO yesterday. He was playingin New Orleans and decided to make the trip to promote himself… I mean, world peace, for the 30% of the city that is white. I don’t mean to be cynical here but it comes with the territory.
Off gigwise.com: “The singer was playing in nearby St Louis when he made a trip to the city, and played for an hour to 200 people in the courtyard of a pub owned by protestor Steven Fitzpatrick Smith.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Bragg said: “A number of people said to me on Twitter, if you’re going to go to St Lou, are you going to go to Ferguson? But we didn’t want to just go there and walk through Ferguson and be tourists. We wanted to do something for the community.”
Well, I am sure the community is very appreciative. After a week of civil unrest an English folkie is exactly what they need to give them a good nights sleep. Where is J. Cole when you need him?
The moral of this story is, just because Twitter fans recommend you do something, even an ALS challenge, for fucks sake don’t do it.
