Be Here Now: New Releases Snapshot Review 10-15-13

McCartney sounds his age and we like it

New – Paul McCartney – His best album since Run Devil Run is also his oldest sounding to date, he almost croaks “Early Days”, and with a new generation of modern producers behind him, it sounds pretty good as well  – A

Lightning Bolt – Pearl Jam – PJ by the numbers, but all the numbers are right – A-

PAX AM Days – Fall Out Boy – Party EP – B+

Open Ended Life – The Avett Brothers – Seth’s voice is so whiny I can’t get into the band, though when I can the folkies sound real good – C

Static – Cults – Now the mystery is over all you have is a twee indie duo in a sophomore slump – C-

To All The Girls… Willie Nelson – Nelson singing duets with the ladies, including Rosanne Cash and Miranda Lambert. Better than it has any right to be – B-

Let’s Be Still – The Head And The Heart – Indie folk with strong songs and sweet harmonies, but a litle boring – B-

Make A Move – Gavin McGraw – I can’t stand the ballads, sorta Dave Mathews on valium, but when he shakes himself up he can nail the occasional song – C-

Fanfare – Jonathan Wilson – Dreary mood indie – C

20 – TLC – These remakes are redundant and the new ones aren’t that hot but still, it is TLC without the L – B-

Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) – Gary Numan – The machine made man is back – C+

See You Tonight – Scotty McCreery – Creepiest voice ever, perfect for Halloween – C-

Emancipated Hearts with an Appendix Of Songs – Dean Wareham – Former Galaxie 500 singer is down – B
