It is Tuesday afternoon and a quick trip to Washington Square South’s Judson Memorial Church has netted me press credentials and I am good to go. This is fun, high tech stuff. So hi-tech CMJ has a deal with Uber, the popular taxi app, to give attendees a discount.
I went for the first time last year and really enjoyed it, and with KEXP lunch time shows at the church this year (instead of at the Hotel Rivington where the press hang, which would have killed me from midtown), I have those shows on the back burner starting tomorrow!
For today, I’m passing on the 6pm Press mixer so i can catch Lily And The Parlor Tricks (though they go on at 6pm, so it will be touch and go any way since I get out of work at 6pm) and definitely ARMS at 640pm. ARMS I wrote about here a couple of years ago, a really really good indie guy who keeps on disappearing on me, so I am psyched to be seeing him. Those two are at the Studio At Webster Hall.
After that I am gonna walk (further) down to The Living Room and see the Bongos. Last time I saw the Bongos was at the Bottom Line so, yeah, we are going back to the 1980s with this one. But I hear it is being broadcast live at Sirius Radio and Ross has been raving about their upcoming album so I am hoping for big things here
Last year was a blast and this year seems just as good plus, lest we forget, there is that Arcade Fire playing two nights in Brooklyn doing the rounds to add that certain je ne sais fucking quoi to the proceedings.
CMJ 2013 begins…
