Randall’s Island took a beating during Governor’s Ball. The weather on Friday night was torrential with more mud per square foot than worth the effort. With backed up ferries and angry concert goers it was a recipe for destruction and destruction happened.
The New York City Parks threw down the hammer on the Backyard Festival which was to take place July 13 featuring Aerosmith, Joan Jett and Yeahsayer. Tens of thousands of fans traipsed through Randall’s Island for the three day Governors Ball and well, the location needs recovery time.
“If there’s any possibility to reschedule the festival, LivingSocial will let customers know,” said a note on the festival’s website.
Tropical storm Andrea pummeled the event site, as did the 70 acts and 40,000 fans there June 7-9 for the Governors Ball music festival.
Backyard Festival ticket buyers should have received refunds and a confirmation email, the statement continued.
You cant predict the weather but as Iman mentioned numerous times, GBall was just too early in the season. Fests need heat and quick summer storms to provide release not spring deluges which make it a mud bog.
This event was sponsored by LivingSocial, you know who that is right? They’re the company who send you email offering up half price dinners and such. A social Group On discount site. You’d think they would just offer something else in exchange- we cancelled the concert but instead how about a free hair cut with optional highlights?
I doubt this will be rescheduled. Poor Joan, that would have been fun for a local gal.
