Because when you think Thanksgiving, you think Lady Gaga, right? At least ABC does, they had already booked her for ‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving’ in 2011, and they are rebooking her this year. I didn’t even bother watching the first time, as the sort of trailer showing Gaga singing with Tony Bennett and answering Katie Couric’s questions was dreadful. This woman is really trying too much, she is trying to be this all-time light-jazz-easy-listening singer and this edgy provocative-dresser-pseudo-artsy-fame-monster, she wants to be everything so that, at the end, we don’t know who or even what she is anymore. Too much is too much, you can’t be Madonna and Michael Jackson and Elton John and David Bowie and Andy Warhol and Donatella Versace….
But this cultural boulimic has a new project to enlighten your holidays, a Muppets special with Lady Gaga. This is so 90s I have to say, I loved the Muppets, but are they still hot these days? The 90-minute special is described as offering ‘an avant-garde twist on the classic holiday variety show as Lady Gaga goes backstage with the Muppets, making a performance dream come true for the multi-platinum singer-songwriter when they combine forces to sing holiday favorites and Lady Gaga hits’, can I translate by… boring?
That’s my take on it, before seeing it (not fair) but Gaga is really enthusiastic about the project:
‘I was so excited when ABC called me about doing a holiday special this year. I knew it just wouldn’t be a complete night of laughter and memories without the Muppets! Can’t wait to see the gang again and I hope Miss Piggy’s still not mad about Kermit. We’re just friends!’
To what Kermit, the chief Muppets answered:
‘What an incredible opportunity! We have a long history with Ms. Gaga, so we jumped at the chance to do a holiday special with her. We won’t even mind if she mistakes some of the Muppets for pieces of her wardrobe — again.’
Oh yeah, she has been there, already, Kermit was her date at 2009 VMAs, and remember her outfit made of Kermit the frog? Ridiculous as everything she wears, and way too much on the scale I-want-attention-at-any-price, but since she has done the disturbing meat dress, so the Kermit dress was pretty inoffensive.
Expect a lot of self promotion, Gag has an album to sell (Artpop’), the Muppets a movie (Disney’s ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ out in 2014), but since the movie also features Gaga in a cameo, we are talking about a real deal for her now!
Of course, Elton John will make an apparition, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rupaul and Kristen Bell, and you can expect many duos with Kermit, Miss Piggy with matching outfits I guess.
‘Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular’ will air on Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving) from 9:30-11 p.m. ET., and since the 90s are back, set up your VCRs.
