Apple is a company that will do anything just to make a few extra bucks. First they changed the charging adapter, and now they’re looking to change their headphone ports. This would mean that new iPhones, iPads, iPods, iWhatevers, wouldn’t allow you to use whatever headphones you wanted. And let’s be honest- the ones that Apple provides aren’t all that great.
They would change to what is called the Lightning connector, or port, and with Beats, they would make special headphones that would be Apple-only. They’re creating a more and more exclusive market this way. The connector would be the same sort of device you plug in to charge the products, so there would be no headphone jack at all. This also means that if anything happens to that little port, the entire device won’t be any good at all and it would have to be fixed.
I don’t quite see any positives to this. Audiophiles claim that Beats and Apple will work together to create even better sound for music quality, but that’s not a major concern. If you break the headphones you get to be specifically adaptable to your Apple product, you’re looking at a ridiculous amount of money to get a new one. It’s pointless and petty and it’s obviously the company’s idea of making even more cash.
Oh, by the way, you know how your iPhone battery pretty much sucks? The new headphones would be drawing from the phone’s battery to power themselves. So you can’t charge your phone while your headphones are killing it.
There’s some serious hurdles here that Apple simply isn’t ready to jump over.
