Alice Cooper's Cover Album, and The Era of Hollywood Vampires

Beauty and The Beast

At age 65 Alice Cooper is aging in true shock rock fashion- by not aging.  When you start your career as a character and a ghoulish one at that the makeup hides the lines and the schtick hides the tiredness.  I admire him greatly.  To maintain and not become an ass (as least not in public persona!) is a huge feat.  Put this in to perspective, he’s been around since about 1969.

This latest release, due out in spring, contains a boatload of cover tunes and well.. it could be quite cool.  You may be aware of the Johnny Depp ‘Revolution’ collab, but there will be much more.  The problem is their being pretty cagey about it.

“It’s all done,” said Alice told Chad Tyson of the 98.7 radio. “It’ll probably be coming out in the spring. We’re still adding on certain people; we have a list of people that we want to get and a lot of times it’s scheduled. In a situation like this, you have certain friends you want to put on the record and their availability is really what it is…y’know, finding where they are, what they want to play and when they want to play.”

But when asked WHO is on the album, Alice replied, “I’m just saying…probably the ‘usual suspects’. Put it that way.”

“We specified a certain time period and said, ‘Let’s stay within that. Let’s not move it around too much’”, he told Billboard. “We specified a certain time period and said, ‘Let’s stay within that. Let’s not move it around too much.’ We don’t want to be doing cover songs from the 80s and 90s when the Hollywood vampires kind of thing was more ’73, ’74, ’75.”

Alice’s reference to “the time period of the Hollywood vampires” recalls the hard-partying crew of the early- and mid-70s that included the likes of John Lennon, the Who’s Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr and “honorary” guests such as T. Rex’s Marc Bolan and Keith Allison of Paul Revere & The Raiders.

So basicaly this aint Bella Lugosi, its Jack Daniels and smack.
