Alesana Webster Underground Hartford CT, Thursday, November 18th, 2010: Demonic Growls By Helen Bach

this photo sucks-the lighting sucked …. the band was OUTSTANDING

Alesana is the best band in hardcore- hands down.

Lets just get that out of the way now.  I just walked out of my 4th time seeing of them.  My ears are ringing, I’m covered in some kids sweat and I think my toe is broken.
It was an amazing, fantastic superlative filled 1 hour show, with me and maybe 120 people tops.
I have never seen the band have more fun.
Due to poor management, poor representation, non existent PR, the band was moved to the Webster Underground from the ‘Main Stage” due to lack of sales.
Some bands would cancel.
Alesana let us hang out with them.
The absurdly sexy Dennis Lee let out his inner fun guy and although
the Magpie continued to compare him to Jack Black, his casual attitude was a great contrast to his demonic growl.    Shawn Milke, the teen scream also let down his swaggah and the band were guys hanging out and sharing jokes. Making fun of us and themselves.  We were chillin with the bro’s and it was glorious.
We watched six guys having fun on a stage about 20 ft long and about 10 ft deep.  Slightly bigger than an area run in a cavern more resembling a grade school diorama.
Performing “Tilting The Hour Glass”, “Apology”, Congratulations(I Hate You), “Ambrosia”, and even “Last Three Letter”, all from On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax the lp this tour is named for.
The musicianship is breathtaking, showmanship spot on, lyrically thought provoking.
And playing a shoe box.
WHAT THE FUCK?
Obviously, Fearless Records and their parent company arent really helping to promote this band that’s been around for six years now.
Perhaps its time for Alesana to find a new manager, lets hope the rumours of heading to Epitaph are true.
How about you guys stop jamming your flavor of the boy bands, stop remaking pop songs to sell to the children and fucking SUPPORT true talent.
I felt bad for the band, but the band put what I consider their best show yet.
They need financial backing, they need publicity and marketing firms who give a fuck.
Or maybe they just need an army of hack bloggers to not give up on them as there hired help has.
I’ll stick with that.  I am sure the Magpie has words to add so I will leave mine here.

We have video as well, so check back tomorrow for more.

Thank you Alesana for the pleasure of your company tonight.
