I am sick of writing about how great the new Old 97’s Most Messed Up is so I’ll tell you how great Lydia Loveless’ Somewhere Else is instead. Between the two, this is probably the greatest double of the year. It is like what we thought Kanye West and Kendrick Lemar were gonna do at MSG when Kendrick forgot to show. This is so great it beats out Governors Ball for show of the week. Webster Hall on Tuesday June 3rd. It should be epic.
Monday – Alejandro Escavado – Bowery Electric – Big time rock and roller started in punk now plays Latin flavored Americana and unstoppable on stage
Tuesday – Pharrell Williams – Apollo – With debatably the best pop album of the year under his belt, he should be bringing his A game to this headlining post-super-stardom gig.
Tuesday – Future – Best Boy – Sick voiced rapper
Wednesday – Gary US Bonds – BB Kings – After Bruce, and he still has a career at the age of 75!
Friday – Fucked Up – Bowery Ballroom – I’ve never been the fan so many other people are, but I’ve gotten close from time to time. The two times I’ve seen him I’ve found them both sparkling and prosaic, but not in that order.
Friday – Governors Ball – Randalls Island – I’ve been listening to the Outkast setlist and am really psyched for them but spare a thought for La Roux as you go about your day.
Friday – Salt-N-Pepa – BB King – Wicked, wicked, still a terrific rap duo
Friday – Smokey Robinson – One of the great songwriters of the 20th century, though his live show can descend to time killing schtick too often, he should cut back to 75 minutes and roll us over.
Saturday – Governors Ball – Randalls Island – The worst of the three nights has Jack White, a force of nature on stage, duking it out with the Strokes
Saturday – Jack Johnson – Jones Beach – I gotta feeling he has to be seen once and only once, purely for camp value.
Saturday – Los Lobos – Hammerstein Ballroom – Paul Simon’s best friends remain the greatest Spanish American classic rock group in the business
Saturday – Sergio Mendes – BB Kings – Here is one thing you might not remember -he is the M in “A&M Records”
Saturday – The Best Of The 90s Salsa Concert – Barclay Center – Starring Willie Colon, Tito Rojas, La India, Frankie Negron
George Lamond and more…
Sunday – Governors Ball – Randall’s Island – Tired? Get there late and leave early, get get there in time for second tiers Frank Turner and Alunageorge
