You will be soon watching ‘Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer’ between your two favorite HBO series. According to Rolling Stone, the channel has purchased the TV rights for a documentary from directors/producers Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin, which just made its premiere at Sundance Film Festival.
The documentary narrates the Russian band’s trial after having staged a ‘Punk Prayer’ against Russian president Putin in a Orthodox Cathedral in Moscow, as well as the three women’s first months of incarceration in terrible Russian camps.
Earlier this month, Lerner declared to Rolling Stone that it was ‘one of the stories of the decade’ and that it was ‘feminism on trial’.
Let’s remember that the state claimed Pussy Riot had disrupted social order by protesting in a church and, as a result, they took for two years in prison! Russian prisons are no joke and just a few days ago, one of the members has been denied a request to postpone her prison term to care for her 5-year-old son!
In Los Angeles, a rally was organized on January 16th by Punk Rock Marthas, and the downtown was invaded by Pussy Riot clones,.. these kids rule!
Lerner is right, this is a major story and these women shouldn’t be forgotten until they are free!
