Everyone was disappointed when Iggy Pop canceled his show in Los Angeles last November, but he had a good reason: the concert was part of his tour with Morrissey, and Morrissey had to postpone the remainder of his fall US tour due to his mother’s illness. But Iggy’s fans can now rejoice as he and the Stooges have announced a new date at Ink N Iron festival next June!
The three-day event, held aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, is part-art part-music festival with art exhibits, 50s fashion, a car show, and a gigantesque tattoo expo, covering three floors inside the ship. Apparently, Long Beach has become the tattoo capital of the world (and the home of the longest operating tattoo shop in America in action from 1927 to 2003), and the festival will gather 280 artists from 30 states and 25 countries. that's a lot of tattoo parlors, and if I believe the number of people I see around me showing tattooed body parts, the trend is far from fading out.
Iggy and the Stooges will headline the festival on Saturday, June 8th, but many other bands are announced such as NOFX, Dead Kennedys, The Sharks, The Dwarves, Black Box Revelation, Prima Donna, Plague Vendor, Johnny Hootrock, The Silver Shine, Barnyard Stompers, D.on Dorax & the Melody Joy Breakers, The Generators, Three Times Bad, The White Buffalo… and according to the flyer, many more to be announced. Wow, another punk rock festival to start the summer? Does Iggy Pop even have a tattoo? I don’t think so!
The Ink N Iron festival is from Friday June 7th to Sunday June 9th, the tickets, already on sale here, are $60 per day or $180 for a 3-day pass, and I am not even mentioning the VIP pass. Plus I don’t think this includes the price of a tattoo, if it is your thing.
