Must See Concert: Rod Stewart, April 2013

The best concert of 2011 was Rod Stewart's two hour career spanning set at Madison Square Garden, which found the Octogenarian (I exaggerate but not by much) with the energy of Jagger and the smarts of Aretha, a crowd pleasing set of high octane rock, pop and soul spanning roots as deep as Sam Cooke not to mention Bonnie Tyler.

And 2012 found Stewart with a top ten album to his name, the dreadful Merry Christmas, Baby, still it's the thought that counts, and since his Friday night concert at MSG on April 19th will be five months the seasonal songs expiration date, I doubt we will have to suffer through them.

Plus? Last time we were stuck with Stevie Nicks opening, this time round it is Stevie Winwood, the blue eyed soul keyboardist who you may remember from Arc Of A Diver, but I know as the 17 year wunderkind from the Spencer Davis Group, not to mention the Traffic star and, last time I saw him live was with Eric Clapton as half of a Blind Faith reunion. No Ginger Baker opf course, but that is all to the good. Last time I saw Baker was at the Cream reunion where he played a 17 minute drum solo! Something Stewart won#t allow to hppen.

Put them together and this is a must see concert for sure.
