Let’s take a moment to acknowledge that its quite ok if you disagree with the nominations for the prestigious Grammy Awards. We as a society adore awards and mantels are full of stupid trinkets saying ‘well done’ The only real accolade is cold hard cash or self appreciation. The latter being easy enough.
When a group of people agree on something-suddenly it becomes right. Please don’t fall for this. There is tons of crap nominated for awards every day, use your judgment, don’t sway, seriously there is a back story to all of this.
That being said……..Who the hell did the picking and choosing this year? I won’t list the entire list but just a few categories to help you utter “WTF?” repeatedly as you read.
Jack White (3): Album Of The Year (Blunderbuss), Best Rock Song ("Freedom At 21"), Best Rock Album (Blunderbuss)
Bruce Springsteen (3): Best Rock Performance ("We Take Care Of Our Own"), Best Rock Song ("We Take Care Of Our Own"), Best Rock Album (Wrecking Ball)
Lamb Of God: Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance ("Ghost Walking")
Arcade Fire: Best Song Written For Visual Media ("Abraham's Daughter")
The Lumineers: Best New Artist
And my personal favorite the ridiculously laughable Skrillex (3): Best Dance Recording ("Bangarang"), Best Dance/Electronica Album (Bangarang), Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical ("Promises (Skrillex & Nero Remix)")
See there you have it. That’s what you’re supposed to like and out of all of it we have Jack White who should win (but wont cuz he has Mumford and Son on the slate and Lamb of God who no one even knows about but the trophy will look great in a Czech prison sell. Maybe Randy Blythe can trade it for cigarettes.
The ceremony will take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, 2013, and will air on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. EST. Oh and here is a list of all the others http://www.grammy.com/nominees
