Tony Fletcher sure took on a tough topic when he opted to chronicle The Smiths. A band that caused so much ruckus and hit the wall way sooner than they should have.
Characters with some serious definition. Morrissey as the implied celibate, vegetarian and Marr the rock God both hating on the Queen and monarchy both with articulate and well versed opinions- and both clashing personalities which mad the band a tremendous and enduring icon on British brilliance.
"Morrissey, the witty, literate lead singer whose loner personality and complex lyrics made him an icon for teenagers who felt forlorn and forgotten; his songwriting partner Marr, the gregarious guitarist who became a rock god for a generation of indie kids"
Just FYI there were four members of The Smiths. We seem to focus only on Marr and Morrissey but there were two others. Andy Rourke is alive and well living in New York with a radio show on East Village Radio and DJ'ing with Olé Koretsky under the name Jetlag. That's nuts huh?
Mike Joyce, he was a Smith, is a manager and coordinator for Beatwolf Radio. Not very glamorous really but not dead either
Morrissey is still alive and kicking and producing amazing music and killing his live shows. Still opinionated as hell and raising a ruckus and I love him to death for it
Marr is about to release a solo album that sounds GREAT so far (from what I heard).
Do I want to know about the band 'back in the day'? Heck yes I do. If only for the scandal and drama of four manic depressive men with instruments and big hair. I seem to love the 'behind the scenes' stories even if I question their accuracy. Reading is fun. I'll grab this one for sure.
