Name checked by headliner Conor Oberst as one of the best songwriters around, singing about ripping off his gals pantyhose and taking her from behind, in plaid shirt, backstage pass stuck to his knee, scruffy beard, and a cool last name, Ian Felice took to the stage for a solo acoustic set at Carnegie Hall, Friday night and did well by himself.
I am not a big fan of the Felice Brothers, though Conor is and James and Farley Felice will be joining Conor for his set. But a good friend of mines best friend is dating one of them, and I have heard that they are good guys, plus it was thru them we broke the Conor is married story so I owe em one.
The problem with Ian is while his songs are great, they are too weird, and for every time he gets it write there is another song where he doesn't quite pull it off. Strumming an acoustic guitar, Ian is a calming influence playing a sort of gentle country folk American that keeps jumping off the deep end. A talking Dylan's blues number is very smart and his voice he can work into a tempting croak, and some of his other songs, one about a "lillywhite dress" were pretty damn good as well.
So, while I can't tell you if they were new songs are old FB songs, but I can tell you he didn't perform "Whiskey In My Whiskey".
