Either Mick Jagger is getting really old or titles the press come up with are very misleading. I would say it is the second option as Jagger will never get old, he just proved it recently with this new Rolling Stones tour.
Seriously, why CNN and NME are playing these tantalizing games, respectively calling their articles ‘One Direction: Like a young Rolling Stones’ and ‘Mick Jagger: 'One Direction remind me of The Rolling Stones',… that so lame. Of course Jagger was talking about the fury of the sea of young girls screaming at them, about the public ready to crush everything on its way to reach the band,… he was not talking about the music! This is what he said:
'I watched a concert of One Direction on the TV the other night, you know just to check [it] out, it reminded me very much of our early concerts, when we were pushed around among the audience and we would kind of float. [T]hey were like, floating above the audience, and they looked like, really distinctly uncomfortable. […] I remember feeling that same uncomfortable feeling of being pushed around in this very weird place about 50 years ago. It was a very funny moment, because it was very similar to the things we’ve been through.’
What a relief, but reading the headlines, I thought for a second he was comparing what his own band has brought to rock music to what these kids are doing, and since we’re talking about this, there is absolutely no possible comparison, can we all agree on this? I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that no one will care about One Direction in a year or two, whereas the Stones are celebrating their 50th anniversary!
Could all these mothers tell their young girls that the Stones were really dangerous, that they were satanic drug-heads, who had sympathy for the devil himself. But alas, these One Direction kids are just so clean-combover-cut that mummies all over the world approve, and their music is so inoffensively upbeat that it sounds like a jingle for toothpaste or soda. One Direction's music is obviously customized to both target a young-girl audience and please their parents,.. how can’t anyone see the stereotyped dance moves and calculated chorus delivery? So Mick Jagger should shut up, it will be a sad era when One Direction gets compared to the legendary Stones.
