The Annotated Kurt Cobain Fave 50 Albums

I got this off brooklynvegan who got it off  Buzzfeed & Laughing Squid, who got it from the 2002, Kurt Cobain "Journals".  Boatloads of hardcore, punk and elder statesmen hard rock. Including the # 1 album. Plus some softer stuff like Toung Marble Giants which suggests where Kurt learnt his quiet.

1. Iggy and the Stooges, "Raw Power"  Bowie reintroduces the world to the man of metal – Grade: A

2. Pixies, "Surfer Rosa" – Invented Grunge – Grade: A-
3. The Breeders, "Pod" – Woah, a bit of a downer here, but if you add it to Surfer Rosa you get boatloads of Nirvana – Grade: B+
4. The Vaselines, "Pink EP" –  Never heard it, but I expect"Jesus Doesn't Want Me For A Sunbeam" is somewhere there.
5. The Shaggs, "Philosophy of the World" – Yeah, I think Lester Bangs was having us on – Grade: C-
6. Fang, "Landshark" – This is the album Kurt got "The Money Will Roll Right In" From – Grade: B+
7. MDC, "Millions of Dead Cops" – 80s West Coast punk band are loud and nasty – Grade: B+
8. Scratch Acid, "Scratch Acid EP" – More crunchy noise – Grade: B+
9. Saccharine Trust, "Paganicons" – West Coast SST band, really, really good – Grade: B+
10. Butthole Surfers, "Pee Pee the Sailor" aka "Brown Reason to Live" – I got into them circa Electric Larryland and don't know this stuff
11. Black Flag, "My War" – Their second album and hardcore as written – Grade: B+
12. Bad Brains, "Rock for Light" – Reggae and punk meet and mate – Grade: B+
13. Gang of Four, "Entertainment!" – Funk and punk meeta nd mate – Grade: A+
14. Sex Pistols, "Never Mind the Bollocks" – It should have been beter but it will have to do – Grade: A+
15. The Frogs, "It's Only Right and Natural" – Gayet than Fear, and more melodic – Grade: B+
16. PJ Harvey, "Dry" – Her first album and she started ready formed bass heavy raw and dry blues – Grade: A
17. Sonic Youth, "Daydream Nation" – Not my fave, that would be EVOL- Grade: B
18. The Knack, "Get the Knack" – One hit wonders now dead – Grade: B-
19. The Saints, "Know Your Product" – Australian punks – Grade: B+
20. anything by Kleenex -a terrific Kraut chick band playing punk – Grade: A
21. The Raincoats, "The Raincoats" – I'd go with "The Kitchen Tape" but maybe because I was there – Grade: A
22. Young Marble Giants, "Colossal Youth" – Terrific mood band and huge influences on the whole scene that followed – Grade: A
23. Aerosmith, "Rocks" – Aworthwile ren=minded of how great this rock and blues band was – Grade: A
24. Various Artists, "What Is It" _ got me
25. R.E.M., "Green" – Yeah, I'll pass – Grade: C
26. Shonen Knife, "Burning Farm"
27. The Slits, "Typical Girls"
28. The Clash, "Combat Rock"
29. The Faith/Void, "Split EP"
30. Rites of Spring, "Rites of Spring"
31. Beat Happening, "Jamboree"
32. Tales of Terror, "Tales of Terror"
