youth is for the young but does that mean pop is for the teeny booper only? Former Take that Boy band boy then all round English pop star crooner Robbie Williams, is back at the top of the UK Charts with his latest hit single "Candy" Deservedly so, it is a masterpiece of Ska–pop for the 21st century but Radio One -BBC's pop based station, refused to play it because it didn't interest their target audience.
Translationc
To add insult to injury, Robbie quotes his own record label, who have made a fortune off the man, complaining to Robbie that he might want to try something a little more suited to his age… Robbie didn't appreciate the suggestion and they were, of course, supremely wrong .
When did 38 become too old for pop? Soon you won't be able to get on the charts past the age of ten – never trust anybody potty trained, and like that. Interesting but it doesn't seem to coincide with any type of reality that people are living through. For one thing, the older we are the better are the chances we will actually pay for muic so guess what, the people the charts will be filled with are people in their mid 20s to late 30s. So Radio One's bizarre claim that 38 should be made mioncemeat by their own demo.
Look at it this way: Radio One is the Z-100 of the UK, and yet, unlike Z-100 they refused to be ruled by the charts. What people are buying is never really wrong. Would it matter if Robbie was 88?
