Hendrix Live At Woodstock Hitting Cinemas

On August 19, 1960 Jimi Hendrix took the stage in Woodstock NY at 9am.  On that stage he premiered his new band ‘Band Of Gypsys and woke the hippies to the insanity of songs like ‘Voodoo Child’, “Purple Haze”, “Foxy Lady”, and that infamous “Star Spangled Banner”.

In honor of what would have been Jimi’s 70th Birthday a film titled “Hendrix 70: Live At Woodstock”, will be hitting your local cinema.  Well, it could be, check the below video for the locations.

The film has a mixed 5.1 surround sound audio track and has been digitally restored from its originall 16mm film.  We are talking about footage that is over 43 years old.  Any rematstering is  a welcomed thing.

The event also includes new interviews with band members Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, long-time engineer Eddie Kramer and Woodstock promoter Michael Lang. the documentary, directed by Grammy winner Bob Smeaton, will be shown before the performance footage.

You would think after all this time- it’s all been seen and heard before.  Seeing such legend on the enormous screen of your local Cineplex will be a pretty cool thing.

Rock and Roll at the movies sure is becoming a hot trend.  I expect there will be tons more where this came from.

Just a 14 song set- but well worth the admission
