Depeche Mode Announce A 2013 World Tour And A New Album

The very successful electronic English band Depeche Mode has made a big announcement on Tuesday in Paris,… weird as all the iconic bands seem to gather in the French capital these days!

Singer Dave Gahan told the press that the band will go on a massive tour in 2013 to support a new album: a total of 33 concerts from May 7th to July 29th throughout Europe, and of course an American tour to follow with dates probably announced later.

Martin Gore described the forthcoming and still untitled album as a sort of hybrid:

‘It's got a bit of a feel of Violator on some of the songs and a feel of Songs of Faith and Devotion on other songs. It's a bit of a hybrid of those two for me. I am very happy with the new album and I think there are at least three or four songs that are up there with the very best that we've done.’

They have already premiered a new song, still untitled too, but which could be named ‘Angel of love’ according to the lyrics. It starts very dry and gritty,… very depechy in fact, with Gahan’s dark, aggressive and grandiose signature delivery, roaring the lines: ‘The angel of love was upon me / And lord, I felt so small/The legs beneath me weakened / I began to crawl.’ And then, in an unexpected mood swing, the songs breaks into some U2-like melody summit for a few seconds, before going back to electronic nervousness.

I have read some of the comments on YouTube, and strangely, people were very divided, certain people praising the songs, others really trashing it – mostly French speaking people as a matter of fact!!! I thought the song sounded as most Depeche Mode’s songs have always sounded, which is a good thing.
