Lady Gaga Wants To Buy Edith Piaf's Music And Her Toenail Clippings!

If Lady Gaga has been accused many times to imitate Madonna, she is now turning her inspiration toward another musical icon, a little older than the material girl and French at the top of this!

According to the Sun (and many other sources which are reporting the same thing), Lady Gaga is currently buying a lot of Edith Piaf memorabilia – clothes, shoes, perfume bottles, private letters – and is even considering acquiring toenail clippings! I guess the most surprising thing in this story is that someone kept toenail bits from the French star for 50 years! The Sun doesn't tell if Gaga wants to clone the French star, or frame the relics for her living room decor.

In any case, it seems that Gaga has been a big fan of Piaf for a long time and the most important thing in this story is that she is trying to buy rights to Piaf's first filmed performance, and is in talks with EMI to use nine of the French singer’s songs. One can speculate, but since 2013 will mark the 50th anniversary of Piaf ‘s death, Gaga may be preparing a special homage for her idol, sampling the songs on a future track and using the footage when she is on stage during her next world tour?

According to the Sun, Lady Gaga insisted to hold a bash in Edith Piaf’s home during Paris Fashion week, and had been playing the singer’s music as her entrance theme at parties.

A source declared to the Sun:

‘Gaga sees a lot of herself in Edith. She, too, was a rebellious character in her era. There's an awful lot of red tape to get through — it's a complicated process. But she's hoping the Piaf estate want to ensure, with her help, that the music can be introduced to a new audience. Considering the size of Gaga's global following, Edith's music will gain a huge new fanbase.’

The only things the two have in common is the tiny stature, some Italian descent, and may be the big voice, although Piaf was singing way before modern enhancement technology. I guess Gaga will probably have a hard time leaving the flamboyant-museum-of-modern-art outfits she is currently wearing to adopt Piaf’s simple wardrobe, known as the little black dress. But I am thrilled at the idea of listening to the dance music version of 'La Vie En Rose'.
