The Rolling Stones “Charlie Is My Darling – Ireland ‘65,” At NY Film Festival

In 1965 Andrew Oldham asked film maker Peter Whitehead to come along to Ireland to film some Rolling Stone concerts.  A simple enough task that left Whitehead forever changed and in awe as he was “Astonished, not only by the incredible power of the Stones’ performances, but especially by the raw energy of the crowds of young people that rushed them everywhere.”

You think just The Beatles made the crowds go mad?  Now way, so did the Stones and for the first time in a very long time you can see this film .  It has been restored with over 90,000 frames, prints, screen prints and complete restoration of the 3 track live recordings.  “Charlie Is My Darling” is billed as an invaluable document featuring the unseen story of the Stones becoming the legend.

The documentary will debut on September 29th – featuring a Q&A with Andrew Loog Oldham – with an encore showing on October 3rd; both screenings will take place at New York City's Walter Reade Theater.  Check out more details here:

The band will issue the film as part of their 50th Anniversary projects on November 6th; the director's cut, the producer's cut and this new 2012 version will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and as part of a Super Deluxe Box Set.
