Neil Young "Old Man" Sound Remedy Remix Reviewed

There are numerous 'remixes' of the classic Neil Young tune "Old Man"  Their latest by Sound Remedy Remix is a bass heavy twonking electro twitter playing back up to the nasal Youngs familiar vocals.

There are moments of cool result.  Moments.  For the most part this tune reminds me of the frustration of having numerous windows open on your computer.. as you shut each down the noise divides.  There are skip beats which totally work but in all sincerity I think the one way this could have been improved would to speed it up a bit.  The space face Mac fun has a perfect place by the banjo but its just too damn slow to be worth the effort.

Why did they put forth this effort anyway?

Guess who did it better?  The Funk Hunters.  The whipping is much cooler and the alteration of vocals makes it all the more fresh.  Almost a Fatboy Slim version.  Unlike Remedy Remix Funk Hunters weren't afraid to remove the purity of the original.  Remedy danced around it- Funk dove right in.

There is a certain respect you give to classics.  I think that Sound Remedy was being a respectful underling.  Trying to update it but not wanting to offend.  In doing so they created mediocrity that has no unifying sound.

If you're looking for a cohesive remix of this twangy ass hillbilly tune, grab Funk Hunters.
