Ever since John Vavartos moved in to the former CBGB space in New York the reality was solid. CBGB and all it stood for was dead and buried and nothing but a memory. Why a high end designer would move in was nothing more than a 'cool space' to be in. I can bitch it out too much, he maintained a bit of integrity.
All good things must come to an end and well I suppose there are worse new tenants that could have moved in. Well, that suppose is now a reality. The last available 8100 feet of the former rock and roll Mecca will now be housing kayaks and carabineer.
Outdoor outfitter Patagonia has decided that the funkafied neighborhood of New York needed a bit of mountain lovin'. Proof positive that we can kiss that area goodbye as the next wave of sterilization occurs. Lets face it, it's been a slow burn. Pinkberry on St Marks? Its just a matter of time before its all a shopping mall with only small brass plaques to show us were things were. That being said When is the double decker Trash and Vaudeville going to pack up? Thank God for the tourists wanting the pink bag.
Matt Krell, a spokesman for the store said, "Patagonia loves historic space. 313 was just the perfect location. In the basement there are still the bathrooms from CBGB's time that are scrawled with all the writing from club-goers over the years."
Why the hell is there more stories about CBGBs toilets than its legacy?
