My fave song right this minute? “Cynical Girl” by the Groucho Marxists

Why do more bands not cover Marshall Crenshaw songs? It would save em a lot of time and they know that whatever they do to a Crenshaw song they simply can’t hurt it.
The stars of the Don Giovanni Presents at the Bowery Ballroom last week , the Groucho Marxists, cover “Cynical Girl” like a blast of energy and a dream come true and suddenly our kid Crenshaw is right there in front of us.
It starts off bleepy but than they tear into it and, and this is important, and signature with the Groucho Marxists, they never ever loose track of the song construction.
I have it on my ipod but can’t seem to find out from where. It isn’t on the GM’s Manifesto, well, it’s somewhere around.
This is all part of the New Brunswick scene, with the exception of Carolina the most alive scene in the US. Here is what the Groucho Marxists had to say about the scene:
“The New Brunswick NJ music scene has always been a bizarre amalgamation of disenfranchised punk rockers, ornery skinheads, weirdo goth folk, freaked-out college kids and directionless hippies.”
In other words: rock nyc’s sorta people.
