I’ll get around to a full review at some point, but I wanted a few more words on Cobain on the anniversay of his birthday so half way through the DVD some thoughts:
1. Sure he didn’t mean to but doesn’t Kurt look Christlike in that hospital robe?
2. Two songs off In Utero which wouldn’t be released for a year.
3. A pretty good set, but geez -the shots from the far side of the Reading Festival and all you see is lights.
4. Mixed up Bleach and Nevermind pretty nice plus the mudhoney song.
5. The difference between rock and pop isn’t rhythm it’s melody. These guys did both.
6. I have been relentlessly mean to Dave Grohl in this blog -that despite the Screaming Females drummer calling him a major influence, but it is Grohl who holds this band together. Seeing him up close is exactly why sometimes it’s worth watching live on films.
7. Who is the guy dancing in the middle of the stage?
8. The joke of wheeling Cobain on stage in a wheelchair hasn’t survived the test of time.
9. I have two live boots that are better -particularly one around a year later in DC when the In Utero songs were fully integrated.
