What the hell is up with all the stages collapsing? Its gotten to the point where there is at least a mishap a week- pure insanity.
Who is to blame for this new phenomena? The roadies? The engineers? The promoters? Why are we unable to build sturdy stages anymore? Are shows far to elaborate to actually tour? I mean think of it concerts these days are multi sensory Disney inspired 'events', its not just a stage and and amp anymore.
This past weekend in Toronto, the stage for Radiohead collapsed and killed their drum tech and threw three others in to the hospital.
"We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew,” the band said on its website. “We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.”
Joseph McGuire, 28, said he drove from Warren, Michigan, to attend the Radiohead concert.
“I was so bummed, coming all the way here to find out the show had been canceled, but I also thought we were pretty lucky that it didn’t happen while the concert was going on,” he said. “I couldn’t imagine the chaos and even great potential injuries and possible deaths had it happened during the concert.”
Hmm Union workers building those stages?
