The Flaming Lips have done it again, and every time I am fascinated. They have just released another weirdo video for one of their songs off their latest release ‘The Flaming Lips and Heavy Fwends’, featuring this time Erykah Badu, and apparently her sister Nayrok’s body.
Their collaboration on ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ is probably one of my favorites of the album, and it becomes here a slow-motion floating space-odyssey through Erykah’s (or is it Nayrok?) naked body, bathing in glitter, blood and a milky sticky frosting. It starts all shining and this birth of Venus turns all ugly-bloody. But would it be a Lips’ video without nudity and some semi-disgusting substances?
The video was directed by George Salisbury, and was available on Vimeo until it turned private probably because of the full-butt nudity! Thanks to the gods of the internet, someone had uploaded on YouTube, which allowed me to watch it a few times. It has unfortunately since being removed for its nudity content! It so insane.
