Another Giant Festival by Promoter Goldenvoice For 2013?

What could possibly stop Goldenvoice? Apparently nothing! According to the LA Times, the giant music promoter is not satisfied to have created the most successful music festival in history (Coachella), and is cooking another music festival for 2013!

Government officials are saying that Goldenvoice and the city of Irvine have signed a contract that would allow the promoter to stage a multi-day music festival at the Orange County Great Park next year. At the center of Orange county, Irvine is at a convenient 40-mile-distance from downtown LA and they say that the festival could draw more than 150,000 people. Just to give a comparison, this year Coachella attendance was around 650,000 people, but Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett said that the new festival would not be another Coachella,… which I am not sure I totally understand as both festivals would bring lots of people, who would listen to music, smoke weed and buy expensive truck food! Nevertheless he said that the festival could celebrate each day a distinct musical genre, although nothing has been decided yet. Goldenvoice is already promoting the Vans Warped Tour held in this park in June, which could be a sort of rehearsal.

It’s pretty incredible what Goldenvoice has been able to accomplish, it has become such an empire! Last year, it celebrated its 30 years with a series of concerts with the punk bands that started it all, then, the FYF Festival included Goldenvoice as a new co-producer… the sky is the limit for this all-mighty promoter, it shapes the music we listen to, and decides for us all.

However, Orange County, a conservative part of California, will not tolerate too much disturbance, and Steven Choi, a member of the Irvine City Council and the Great Park's board of directors, said that they are concerned with ‘public safety and orderly conduct’, and that the officials will only tolerate a festival ‘suitable to our characteristics’, and a crowd that is ‘well-behaved — no drugs and no alcohol’.

I wouldn’t mind another festival, but they are kidding about the alcohol and the drug, right?
