You can only watch the video for the new collaboration between The Flaming Lips and New Fumes, ‘Girl, You’re So Weird’ on Vimeo since it was rejected by YouTube!! Is it because there are naked women all over it, or because it is too weird? Probably both, but if you know the Flaming Lips, at this point, nothing should surprise you anymore. Naked women? There is one attached at each Wayne Coyne’s tweet, …Skulls? Big deal! Remember the gummy skulls,… and the gummy fetus, and Ke$ha and Bon Iver’s blood in the vinyl, and other weirdness coming from some bizarro world?
The video is actually superb, psychedelically colorful with naked women releasing blue, orange smoke while slowly moving along some dramatic or alarming grandiose sonic declarations, alternating with lyric confessions over electronic weirdness in a disco-ball womb-like room,… err did she really pee on the floor at :56???
Such oddity seems to come easily to Wayne Coyne, and you have to wonder what he will invent next to top his last eccentricity.
This song is part of the band's upcoming project 'The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends', which will be released on April 21, Record Store Day. Beside this collaboration with New Fumes – whose amazing music I recently had a taste of, as he was opening for the Polyphonic Spree at the El Rey theater, two weeks ago – the Flaming Lips have also invited Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Prefuse 73, Tame Impala, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Nick Cave, Lightning Bolt, Yoko Ono, Neon Indian, Erykah Badu, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin! What a cast, what a cast!
