The Spring Standards' new video for 'Here We Go' Reviewed

Brooklyn’s indie band, The Spring Standards, has just released a video for its power-pop song ‘Here We Go’, which borrows to the eternal Frankenstein-Pinocchio myth, with a cute twist.

The catchy tune starts with a few guitar-drum electric shocks (may be to animate the mechanical wooden doll-like woman laying on the table) and some oh-oh-oh-nos before exploding into a higher lever of power-pop chorus, that will certainly stick in your memory cells for some time.

The song fits perfectly to the charming storyline, as we follow the education of the pretty puppet, who reveals her hidden dancer talents, totally Michael-Jackson-thriller-zombie-style, during a live show of the band. The video, which was directed and produced by Keith Boynton and Mike Lavoie, transpires youth and energy, but is also very sweet without being corny!

According to their release press, the three of them (James Cleare, James Smith and Heather Robb) are preparing to release their new record, 'yellow//gold', out May 1, which consists of two EPs, ‘yellow’, ‘a 7-song disc filled with warmth and melancholy’, and ‘gold’, a ‘5-song battle cry from some dark secret place, full of frustration and excitement, tension and relief’.

This band is totally new to me, but certainly not to cooler-than-you Bill Murray, who attended their SXSW performance, as Heather Robb told Spinner:

'The experience of having Bill Murray show up to our SXSW showcase can't really be put into words. He's simply one of the greatest performers ever and we were incredibly humbled by the whole ordeal. To have a man like him leading the charge for 'Just One More Song' after our 1AM set was a moment we will never forget. It was a dream come true, pure and simple'.
