The Silversun Pickups are a local band I haven’t really followed the musical progression since the success of their song ‘Lazy Eye’ in 2006. But they went really big, quite fast: they got a Grammys nomination for best artist in 2009 and even toured with Muse in 2010!
They are about to release their third album, Neck of the Woods, due out May 8 on Dangerbird, and we can already listen to their first single ‘Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)’, a loud song with a big sound and bright vocals, that does not exactly remind me anything they have done before; but since everyone is saying the band is not repeating itself, it makes sense.
It may be the Muse-effect, but the track seems quite ready for the stadium size with its electronic-synth and ascending-vocals at the beginning, the rest of the song being a sort of fuzzy-busy shoegaze on the dark side
However, when I read their name, I still see the Silver Lake liquor store whose inspired them their moniker.
