If you are in Washington D.C. this Saturday, don’t miss The Reason Rally! I would love to go if I were near the US Capital, as this is the country’s largest and most influential secular organization, free of charge, and with a line-up of speakers, comedians and musicians set up to give a cardiac arrest to Rick Santorum: Among them, renowned author and evolutionary biologist Dr. Richard Dawkins, magician James Randi, author and theoretical physicist Dr. Lawrence Krauss, comedian Eddie Izzard, Mythbusters co-host Adam Savage, Skeptic magazine’s Dr. Michael Shermer, and in the music department, Bad Religion (of course) is the headliner.
It makes total sense that the Los Angeles punk band was chosen to participate to such event, as their frontman, Dr. Greg Graffin, assures the double function of being an evolution teacher at Cornell University and a songwriter for the band,… he also writes books (I read his last one ‘Anarchy Evolution’) and I really wonder how he manages to do it all.
Graffin explained his decision to participate to the Reason Rally to the LA Times:
‘We thought it was a good gathering of people who want to stress that reason should characterize the citizenry of this country, not affiliation with some religious group or socioeconomic stratum or any other criterion besides the willingness to engage in reasonable debate that is informed by rational knowledge.
All I’ve ever heard from fans (and that includes parents and their kids alike) is that they have been inspired to learn more and care more by listening to our music. I think, therefore, that the Reason Rally — like Bad Religion — can be very inspirational.’
Believe me, the Reason Rally is a much-needed event in these dark times, what about an US tour? Meanwhile you can check the full line-up here:
