May 19th would have been Joey Ramones 61st birthday. There are those of us who were (and are) in awe of what this lanky bean pole did for rock and roll. I do believe he single facedly made being ugly sexy as hell. A nasal hot mess of a voice and a odd stage presence made The Ramones THERAMONES.
Joey passed away of lymphoma April 15, 2001. I remember the day clearly and I remember the chill off the loss. The lp "Don't Worry 'Bout Me" was released. Reportedly his final recordings, but of course that was untrue.
On May 22, “…ya know?”, will be released as the second posthumous album from my hero.under the supervision of his brother, Mickey Leigh, and producer Ed Stasium the demos and unfinished works have been assembled in tribute. Guess who else is in on it ? Joan Jett, Steven Van Zandt (who also wrote the album’s liner notes), Bun E. Carlos, and guitarist Lenny Kaye.
The album’s first track, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Is The Answer” will come out as a 7-inch single for Record Store Day on April 21.
I'm excited and scared. This could be wonderful this could be pathetic. I'm going to hold tight to wonderful.
