OK Go's 'Needing/Getting' Video Reviewed

The OK Go guys have done all kind of weird and unexpected things in their videos, remember the treadmills for ‘Here it goes again’, the giant domino effect for ‘This Too Shall Pass’, and the dogs for ‘White Knuckles’? Their shows are colorful and almost more visual than musical, but nobody complains!

They have a new video for their song ‘Needing/Getting’, and this time a car, a Chevrolet, is used as a sort of instrument, hitting on a series of keyboards,  bells and other homemade instruments,  providing the percussion-drum-machine part of the song. The multicolor jumpsuits are there, and the fearless band is driving fast, off -road in the desert, while still singing.

The video premiered on Sunday on MTV.com but also in a Chevy commercial during the Super Bowl (that I did not watch), and according to MTV they used ‘more than 1,100 homemade instruments — plus 55 pianos and countless guitars — a painstakingly plotted road course and a bevy of appendages bolted onto a Chevy Sonic ‘.

Was it done in one take? I guess not! The best thing is that during this wild ride, they still manage to sing and keep us interested by a catchy chorus while we are watching a musical car rally. What a ride! But aren’t they trying a little bit too hard?
