Why is the whole internet obsessed about Lana Del Rey? She is releasing an album, I got it, but she is not the only one. And the thing is that most reviewers are taking a real pleasure to destroy the hype, and do some damage. She has more detractors than supporters and is accused to be fake,manufactured, rich, enhanced, in summary to be all artifice compared to authentic Adele. The comparison will be unavoidable, but I would like to defend Lana for once, so here are ten reasons why Lana Del Rey is better than Adele:
– Lana’s sound has this retro vibe but is totally modern atthe same time; her slow songs are all about strings, but critics say the albumhas Kayne West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ all over it. Adele’s sound is just retro soul-pop.
– Lana’s videos have this unnecessary luxury, this megalomaniac grandiosity with tigers and expensive art objects coming right away from the most eccentric rapper’s dream, while Adele’s videos are plain black and white videos.
– Lana self-proclaimed herself ‘Lolita lost in the hood’, or a ‘gangster Nancy Sinatra’, Adele described herself as a 'normal girl'.
– Adele looks like the girl next door with a nice brushing, Lana looks nothing like the girl next door, and I live in LA, home of the beautiful people.
– Lana is all assurance and boldness in her cinematic videos but looked like a frigid and insecure dorkl ive, while Adele always shows the same assurance,… go figure, but people like ambiguity.
– Lana had lip enhancement‘surgery’, Adele had only throat surgery.
– Adele does covers of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Bob Dylan and The Cure, Lana has a song, ‘National Anthem’, which begins like the Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’: she steals and samples, she is a gangster as she said.
– Lana is cold and wears roses like Mena Suvari in American Beauty, whereas Adele is warm and fuzzy… but guess over which one people have killed themselves ?
– I have looked for Lana’s album on Spotify (most of the tracks were already there 3 days before the release of the album) but I didn’t even bother to do so for Adele (whose album '21' is still not on Spotify by the way).
– Hipster Runoff has renamed his blog ‘The Lana Del Report’ after her, just to prove she is all what matters in music these days. Hipster Runoff rarely mentions Adele these days.
