Judging a talent contest was never that big of a deal. You either like them or you don’t and you move on. BUT now that the general public are so insanely obsessed with the horrid ‘singing competitions’, being a judge is a big deal.
Welcome our latest, Howard Stern “shock Jock” king of New York is the latest mouth for the series America's Got Talent. This saddens me for a few reasons. First off, I love Howard. Yes, I know it’s against the ‘girl code’ but I find his sophomoric and idiotic sense of humor entertaining. Before he went satellite I was a pretty loyal listener.
There is no way he can be himself (or the character we believe him to be) if he is on prime time television. He will be diluted and I don’t really think he can pack the same punch.
“Howard Stern’s larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to ‘America’s Got Talent’ starting this summer,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of alternative and late night programming.“He’s a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable.”
Of course, the parents groups are up in arms- heaven forbid they allow this heathen on the television, right?
The “Parents Television Council” flipped saying: “an act of desperation for a flailing network,” and slammed Stern as “a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity.”
I am a parent. If I don’t want my child to watch something it is my job to prevent it- not some network.
Americas Got Talent, won’t be around long anyway so let the guy have a season to stir the pot- then be done with it already.
