We have already mentioned this upcoming movie a few times, but it has now a trailer! Rock of Ages, which should be out around June next year, looks like the cheesy and kitsch flick I was expected.
Based on the very successful Broadway musical, it is about a rock superstar Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) and the religious activist (Catherine Zeta-Jones) determined to bring him down. Zeta Jones plays her character totally over-the-top, screaming ‘Sex, hateful music, and sex’, and among the rest of the cast, you can see Alec Baldwin with weird long hair, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand and ‘Footloose’ actress Julianne Hough, but not much of Cruise, whose face is hidden by a cowboy hat or large shades. When on stage, his character looks like a sort of Conan the Barbarian meets Frank T.J. Mackey – for those who remember Magnolia – the only asshole-full-of-himself character Tom Cruise can really play.
And the music? 80s glam rock, hair metal, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Journey, Poison, Twister Sister,…. thanks, I will pass on that soundtrack.
