I had tix to see the Streets farewell gig last August but he cancelled. Which means I will have never gotten to see my favorite English rapper on stage. Better than Tinie Tempeh, Professor Green, better than Dizzee Rascal or Wiley.
As English as Paul Weller, as great a rhymer as Kid Cudi, the man all but invented English rap a a serious idiom, and his first three albums, in the early 00's are all must owns. And then… his last two albums blew. Found God or some such thing.
Last Saturday, Mike Skinner put his alter ego, the Streets, to bed at "The Big Show" in Skegness, inviting the audience on stage for a drink afterwards.
Skinner is already working on a new project called DOT and I can add another name to the list of musicians I never saw live.
