Well here is something to make you furrow a brow. New York City doesn't have an 'all country' radio station. Who cares, right?
Well I think New Yorkers might.
Concert promoters have probably suspected, with when it comes to country music, New York City is tops, according to Nielsen.
NYC recently came in a No.1 in country album sales, followed by Los Angeles and Dallas in country album sales, while Nashville came in at No. 6. Sorta odd don't you think? For all the hip suave of the concrete jungle its really just a giant asphalt trailer park with neon.
I presume this is based upon sheer consumer dollars. What is more interesting is the commercial radio issue. I have always been shocked by how horrible New York City radio is. You would think their radio stations would be top notch- but they're few and far between and have way too much Anne Murray.
Yeee Haww.. Taxi!
